Open education has been developing fast and increasingly being practised, not only in distance education institutions but also in conventional universities and colleges. Education programmes are becoming more and more flexible in various respects, such as delivery modes, curricula, and learner commitment. The International Conference on Open and Flexible Education serves as an international platform for academic exchanges and sharing of quality research.

The theme of inaugural conference to be held in January 2014 is ‘Making Learning Open and Flexible: Emerging Modes and Approaches.’ We welcome studies from, or relevant to, both open universities and conventional institutions.

Subthemes of the conference include the following:

1.   new trends in teaching and learning in technology-rich environments;
2.   institutional changes towards more open and flexible learning;
3.   the use of technologies to enhance teaching and learning;
4.   innovations in curriculum development and pedagogy;
5.   technology-mediated learning communities; and
6.   the use of Web-based open educational resources, e.g. massive open online courses and other large-population courses.
Papers on other areas relevant to the conference theme will also be considered.

The abstract submission deadline is 30 October 2013. Authors will be informed of their abstracts soon after their submission and full papers are expected to be submitted by the deadline as indicated in the acceptance emails. For details concerning submission formats and requirements, please refer to the page of ‘Submission of Abstracts and Papers’.
